Happy & Healthy Bike Lane (HHBL)

The HHBL (Happy & Healthy Bike Lane) near Suvarnabhumi Airport is an absolute gem for families with energetic children who love to ride on two wheels. While it’s not located in the heart of Bangkok, the journey is well worth it, especially if you have an active little one who enjoys balance bikes or anything on wheels. For us, the HHBL became one of our favorite spots during our time in Bangkok, providing hours of entertainment and adventure for Enea.

What is there to discover here?

Getting to the HHBL from central Bangkok might seem like a trek, but it’s surprisingly manageable. When we lived near the Phra Khanong BTS station, it took us about 45 minutes to reach the HHBL by motorcycle. The ride itself was an adventure, with Enea eagerly anticipating what awaited him at the track.

Despite being located a bit outside the city center, the HHBL is a haven for kids and parents alike. The quiet surroundings and the well-designed facilities make it a perfect spot for families looking to escape the bustling city and enjoy some outdoor activity.

The HHBL offers a range of facilities, but the highlight for us has always been the “pump lane” designed specifically for children. This track is exclusively for balance bikes, ensuring that kids can ride around safely without interference. Parents are encouraged to stay off the track and watch from the sidelines, allowing children the freedom to explore, race, and navigate the twists and turns of the lane.

For those with more experienced young riders, there are also two ramps where kids can practice their skills and gain confidence in handling their bikes. Watching Enea tackle these ramps with determination and joy was always a proud moment.

One of the best parts about the HHBL is that admission is completely free. Not only that, but if your child doesn’t have their own balance bike or helmet, you can borrow both at no cost. This makes the HHBL an incredibly accessible and inclusive place for families, regardless of whether they own equipment or are trying it out for the first time.

Enea absolutely loves the HHBL. On most visits, he easily spends three hours riding his bike, pausing only for essential water breaks to rehydrate. The space allows him to let off steam, race against other kids, and test his limits on the ramps and curves.

Initially, we borrowed a balance bike and helmet from the HHBL, and it was more than sufficient for him to get started. Over time, as his love for the sport grew, we invested in his own equipment. Now, Enea rides with his personal gear—a sleek balance bike, a colorful jersey, a snug helmet, and knee and elbow pads, complete with gloves to match. Seeing him so focused and confident in his own gear has been incredibly rewarding as a parent.

The track wasn’t just about riding; it was a social experience too. Enea often found himself racing alongside other kids, exchanging smiles, and learning from their techniques. For parents, it’s heartwarming to see children bond over a shared activity, building both skills and friendships in the process.

The HHBL isn’t just a bike track—it’s a space where kids can develop confidence, improve their physical skills, and simply have fun in a safe and engaging environment. For families in Bangkok, it’s a fantastic way to spend a weekend morning or afternoon, offering a much-needed break from screens and indoor activities.

From the free entry and equipment rentals to the well-maintained track and friendly atmosphere, the HHBL truly stands out as a family-friendly destination. For us, it became a place of joy, adventure, and cherished memories.

If you’re in Bangkok and have an active child who loves movement and speed, we highly recommend making the trip to the HHBL. It’s more than just a bike lane—it’s a space where kids can be kids, parents can relax, and everyone can enjoy the thrill of riding together.
